When to visit Las Vegas
Las Vegas is calmest in January and busiest in March. For the best balance of decent weather and smaller crowds, aim for July.
Las Vegas runs on the convention calendar more than the weather. The comfortable months — March through May, September through October — are exactly when the big trade shows land, and a single citywide convention can triple a midweek room rate with nothing changing on the casino floor. Checking the convention schedule before you book is worth more than any other piece of planning here.
The heat is real and worth respecting. July and August routinely pass 40°C, the distance between resorts becomes a genuine problem, and anything outdoors has to happen before nine in the morning. That is precisely why summer rooms are cheap: if your trip is mostly shows, restaurants and tables, the trade is a good one, and the pool complexes are at their best.
Weekdays and weekends diverge more sharply here than seasons do. Sunday through Thursday is a different and much cheaper city than Friday and Saturday in the same week, all year round. The two quietest pockets in the whole calendar are mid-January once CES packs up, and the first ten days of December before the rodeo arrives.

- Resort fees are charged per night on top of the advertised rate and are not optional — compare total prices, never headline ones.
- The Strip is much longer than it looks: Mandalay Bay to the Venetian is over three kilometres of pavement, so use the Deuce bus or the monorail in summer.
- Same-day discount booths cut prices on smaller shows, but headline residencies never discount — book those the week tickets are announced.
- The Red Rock Canyon scenic drive needs a timed-entry reservation during the busy months; it costs little but sells out on spring weekends.
