When to visit the Jerónimos Monastery
The calmest time to visit the Jerónimos Monastery is January, when the crowd typically sits around 40/100. The busiest stretch is July. Hour to hour, the quietest window is usually 10:00 AM.
The cloister of the Jerónimos Monastery is open Tuesday to Sunday from 09:30 to 17:30, with last entry at 17:00; the ticket offices close at 16:30. It is closed on Mondays, on 1 January, Easter Sunday, 1 May, 13 June and 25 December, and it can also close for special events linked to the Portuguese State. The monastery, which is part of the UNESCO listing shared with the Tower of Belém, advises buying tickets online in advance because they often sell out and cannot be bought on the day.
The yearly curve follows Lisbon: July is the busiest month and January the calmest. In the model, the first hour after opening is the calmest and the early afternoon the fullest. The official rules add that between 09:30 and 10:30 the monastery has its own entrance channel for guided groups with tickets for that slot, so the hour chart is the site's model, not a count of the place; read both together.
