When to visit the Belém Tower
The calmest time to visit the Belém Tower is January, when the crowd typically sits around 40/100. The busiest stretch is July. Hour to hour, the quietest window is usually 10:00 AM.
The official site says the Belém Tower is open Tuesday to Sunday from 09:30 to 17:30, with last admission at 17:00 and the ticket office closing at 16:30. It is closed on Mondays, 1 January, Easter Sunday, 1 May, 13 June and 25 December, and because it is exposed to the weather it may close whenever visitor safety is at risk. The visitor rules cap the tower at 960 visitors a day and 60 inside at the same time, and online tickets are for a specific date and a half-hour slot, from 09:30–09:59 up to 16:30–17:00.
The curve follows Lisbon's: July is the busiest month and January the calmest. In the model, the first hour after opening is the calmest of the day, but the hour chart is the site's model, not a count at the tower, so read it together with the time slot on your ticket. The tours below are about the Belém district; they are not tickets to the tower, which you buy from the official site.

How to visit the Belém Tower with fewer people
- Book your date and time in advance if you can: the official site says tickets often sell out, and online tickets are tied to a specific half-hour slot (the last one runs 16:30–17:00).
- Travel light: the visitor rules do not allow suitcases, trolleys or large backpacks, food or drink, or selfie sticks and tripods.
- Check access before you go: strollers and wheelchairs are not allowed on the terrace of the bastion, and the official site says access for people with reduced mobility is limited to the ground floor or the bastion's main hall.
