When to visit the Lisbon Oceanarium
The calmest time to visit the Lisbon Oceanarium is January, when the crowd typically sits around 40/100. The busiest stretch is July. Hour to hour, the first hour after opening is usually the quietest; check the opening time on the official site.
The Lisbon Oceanarium is in the Parque das Nações, at Doca dos Olivais. The official site says it is open every day from 10:00 to 20:00, with last entry at 19:00, and that four days of the year have special hours: 24 and 31 December (10:00 to 19:00, last entry at 18:00) and 25 December and 1 January (11:00 to 20:00, last entry at 19:00). Tickets are sold by entry time slot: 10:00 to 11:30, 12:00 to 15:30 and 16:00 to 18:30. The site gives an average visit of 1h30 to 2h.
The curve follows Lisbon's: July is the busiest month and January the calmest, with February and November also low. For an off-peak visit, those three months are the best bet. Within the day, the model puts the calmest hour right after opening, which is the 10:00 to 11:30 slot; the hour chart is the site's model, not a count taken at the aquarium.

How to visit the Lisbon Oceanarium with fewer people
- Choose your entry slot when you buy: the official site lists three (10:00 to 11:30, 12:00 to 15:30 and 16:00 to 18:30), sells online and also at the ticket desk on the day, but desk sales are subject to availability.
- Plan for 1h30 to 2h inside, as the official site says, and mind the last entry: 19:00 on normal days, 18:00 on 24 and 31 December.
- Flash photography and any artificial light are not allowed, nor selfie sticks, and food and drinks cannot be taken into the exhibitions. There are 39 paid lockers on Floor 0, and luggage larger than the lockers cannot be stored.
