When to visit the Sansevero Chapel
The calmest time to visit the Sansevero Chapel is January, when the crowd typically sits around 40/100. The busiest stretch is May. Hour to hour, the quietest window is usually 9:00 AM.
The official site gives the museum’s hours as daily from 09:00 to 19:00, with the last entry 30 minutes before closing, and says it is closed on Tuesdays. Its calendar of special openings lists exceptions. It opens on four Tuesdays: 3 November (09:00 to 19:00), 8 December (09:00 to 20:30), 29 December (09:00 to 19:00) and 5 January 2027 (09:00 to 19:00); on 24 and 31 December it closes at 14:00, on 25 December it is closed and on 1 January it opens at 10:00. The number of daily admissions is limited and every visit must be booked in advance: online tickets go on sale 60 days ahead, and two days before the date more tickets are released. A ticket cannot be used on any other date, and online purchases cannot be cancelled, changed or refunded.
The curve follows Naples: May is the busiest month and January the calmest, with February close behind. Because daily admissions are capped and sold by date and time, the practical move is to book as soon as your date opens, especially from April to September. In the model the calmest hour is the first after opening, but the hour chart is the site’s model, not a count at the door. The museum does not allow photographs, video or mobile phones inside, so the photo on this page shows the entrance seen from the street. Tickets and guided visits are listed below.

How to visit the Sansevero Chapel with fewer people
- Book before you travel: the official site says every visit must be booked in advance and that online tickets go on sale 60 days ahead. Two days before the date, more tickets are released on the booking platform.
- Keep the camera and phone away: photographs, video, mobile phones, animals, food and drink are not allowed inside. If you travel with an animal, the museum suggests taking turns to go in, and whoever waits outside does not have to queue again.
- Check access before you go: wheelchair users and people with reduced mobility can visit the whole nave, where the Veiled Christ is, and the sacristy; the Underground Chamber is not accessible because it is reached by a narrow spiral staircase.
