When to visit the Alcazaba of Málaga

The calmest time to visit the Alcazaba of Málaga is January, when the crowd typically sits around 40/100. The busiest stretch is August. Hour to hour, the quietest window is usually 9:00 AM.

The Alcazaba of Málaga is open every day of the year. The official site, run by Málaga City Council, gives 09:00 to 18:00 from 1 November to 31 March and 09:00 to 20:00 from 1 April to 31 October, with the last pass one hour before closing. Entry is free for all visitors on Sundays from 14:00, which is the rule the council currently applies.

The yearly curve follows Málaga’s: August is the busiest month and January the calmest. The free Sunday entry is a fixed rule of the site and is not something the curve captures, so a quiet visit in a calm month is easier to plan on another day of the week. In winter the last pass is at 17:00, which leaves a short window in the afternoon.

How to visit the Alcazaba of Málaga with fewer people

  • The last pass is one hour before closing, at 17:00 in winter and 19:00 in summer: arrive well before that, because the route covers two walled enclosures.
  • Entry is free on Sundays from 14:00 until closing. On other days the official page sells a ticket for the Alcazaba alone and a combined one with Gibralfaro Castle.
  • The route climbs the hill through the entrance fortifications, on slopes and stairs; the city council’s information sheet says the site has access for people with reduced mobility.
