When to visit the Galleria dell’Accademia
The calmest time to visit the Galleria dell’Accademia is January, when the crowd typically sits around 40/100. The busiest stretch is July. Hour to hour, the quietest window is usually 9:00 AM.
The official site gives the gallery’s hours as 08:15 to 18:50, with the last admission at 18:10; it is closed every Monday, on 1 January and on 25 December. It recommends reservations and warns that without one the wait for access may be long. Closing procedures begin ten minutes before closing, so the ground-floor musical instruments rooms and the first-floor exhibition rooms are closed to visitors from 18:40. There is no cloakroom: large bags, backpacks and helmets are not allowed in, water bottles up to 0.5 litres are, and a luggage storage service is available at the MyAccademia store.
The curve follows Florence’s: July is the busiest month, with May, June and September close behind, and January is the calmest. In the model, the Monday closure pushes visitors onto the other days, and the gallery is calmest in the first hour after opening and in the last hour before the final admission. On the first Sunday of the month the official site says entry is free in 2026 and the booking service is not active, so you wait your turn at the gate. Tickets and tours are listed below.
