Sachsenhausen Memorial and Museum in Oranienburg stands on the site of a former concentration camp. The memorial states that admission to the memorial and the museums is free, and that audio guides for exploring on your own are available at the Visitor Information Center without a reservation, in eight languages. The grounds and exhibitions are open from 08:30 to 18:00 between 31 March and 26 October and from 08:30 to 16:30 between 27 October and 30 March; the Visitor Information Center is open daily from 08:30 to 17:00. From Berlin Friedrichstraße, the S1 to Oranienburg takes 45 minutes.
The yearly curve follows Berlin’s: January is the calmest month and July and August the busiest. In the model, a winter visit is the quietest but also the shortest, because the grounds close at 16:30, so a visit that needs several hours is best started in the morning. Much of the site is open air and the weather sets the pace.
