Cairo
Winter is the right weather and the wrong crowd; late October and March are the balance.
When to visit Cairo
Cairo is calmest in June and busiest in December. For the best balance of decent weather and smaller crowds, aim for July.
Cairo’s tourist season runs the opposite way to Europe’s. From November to February the weather is mild and dry, and that is exactly when the Pyramids, the Egyptian Museum and the Grand Egyptian Museum at Giza are busiest. Summer is the quiet season for an obvious reason: daytime temperatures pass 35°C and there is no shade on the plateau.
The crowd at the big sites arrives in a single morning wave. Coaches from central Cairo, and flights and buses from the Red Sea resorts, land at Giza by about 10:00, so the first hour after opening is the calm window in every season. The city’s traffic makes distance a matter of hours rather than kilometres, which is why most visitors split their stay between downtown and Giza.
Ramadan moves with the lunar calendar and falls around February and March in 2026 and 2027. Sites stay open, but hours shorten, daytime is quieter and the evenings are some of the liveliest of the year. The best balance of weather and crowds is late October and March, before the heat and after the peak.
